Susi

The Gilded Serpent presents...

Susi

Susi grew up in Boston with her mother's Armenian family. Her love of music and dance comes to her through them: one aunt was a classical singer, the other a pianist; her Great-Uncle Tucky played kanun and her homesick Grandpa listened to Armenian music on the radio in his bedroom. She learned to bellydance while she was living in Texas and never told anyone since they considered it a "dirty" dance. Her teachers were Almazaah, Pat Taylor, Z-Helene, Khedi Megatelli and Zein Al Jundi. She moved back to Boston to nurse her dying mother in 2000 and began studying dance extensively with Shadia Maalouf, learning Lebanese and Egyptian folk-dances as well as oriental dance. Susi performs regularly in the Boston area. She specializes in balancing a shamadan and a water jug while she dances.
