Nivasi
Nivasi (Romani for ‘water spirit or mermaid’) is a performer and teacher in Modern Egyptian, West Coast Cabaret, and Tribal Fusion style belly dance. She is known for her elegant, graceful style, emotional intensity, and talent for improvisation. Nivasi has performed at fundraisers in Randolph, Vermont, at Raqs Britannia in Blackpool, U.K., and regularly with Pomegranate Studios in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Saffron Dance in the Washington, DC metro area. Nivasi has been studying belly dance for 10 years, and her teachers include Myra Krien, Saphira, Samar (of Saffron Dance), Shahrzade (of Washington DC), and Adriane, and she has been strongly influenced by workshops with renowned dancers Aziza, Bozenka and Mira Betz. Nivasi holds a Master of Arts degree in Middle Eastern Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, as well as a BA in Theatrical Design and Production from Oberlin College, and has an extensive background in western music and art history. She is also an experienced ESL teacher, and her current day job is scoring English speaking tests online from her home in Santa Fe, NM.
