Luna

Amy Luna Manderino from Berkeley, California, teaches and performs her own fusion dance style based on the Romani dances of Spain, Egypt, Turkey, Russia and India. Combining ethnic dance with an interactive theatrical presentation, her award winning shows feature fan and shawl dancing, tambourine, skirt work, flaming sword, candle crown, dancing on wine glasses, magic and tarot reading. She has been a weekly featured dancer at Amira, Kan Zaman and Cafe Istanbul in San Francisco and was awarded 2nd Runner-Up at the Bellydancer of the Universe Contest 2003, Fusion Category. She is featured in the books The Tribal Bible (Kajirah Djoumanha, ed.) and Thrift Shop Costumes for Bellydancers (Dina Lydia) featuring Luna's costume designs from recycled materials. Please visit her website at www.lunabelly.com for pictures, reviews, class information and a current schedule of performances and special workshops.

To further the art of bellydance, Luna produces the popular Cafe Bellie (www.cafebellie.com) a recurring bellydance open stage performance venue and benefit for survivors of domestic violence. She is also an initiated Wiccan priestess and an active minister in the Bay Area Interfaith community and teaches workshops in the Goddess Grace Moving Meditation created by Mariel.

Luna was able to bring all of her skills together in one production when hired as both Director of Choreography and Music Director for Masque of the Goddess, a sacred dance ritual for 13 solo dancers, each masked as goddesses representing 13 different cultures. Luna composed and performed live music from 13 cultural traditions for this critically acclaimed performance held at the New College of California in San Francisco. Designed for sacred dance performance, these stunning masks by artist Lauren Raine are available on loan for performance. For more information visit her website.
