[Biography Subtitle]
Angelika Nemeth is internationally recognized as a premier dancer and teacher of Raqs Sharqi. She is currently on the dance faculties of two Southern California colleges where she teaches accredited classes in Middle Eastern dance. She was influential in the creation and development of the World Dance Certificate Program at Orange Coast College, which she currently supervises, and where she directs the annual “World Dance Celebration” concert. For the past 25 years, Angelika has produced and directed numerous critically acclaimed dance concerts and co-produced the historic 1st and 2nd International Conferences on Middle Eastern Dance held in Southern California in 1997 and 2001. She trains and mentors many of today’s emerging dance artists, lectures at colleges and libraries, has led dance study tours to Egypt, Israel and Turkey, and has appeared on numerous dance videos and magazine covers. One of her recent projects was co-producing a world dance festival, Splendors of the World, in Kostrena, Croatia in July, 2013. She is planning another festival for 2015.
Known for her sultry and expressive style and masterful attention to detail, she elegantly blends traditional forms with a contemporary flair. She is in demand internationally as a featured workshop instructor, dancer and competition judge, and has performed for royalty and celebrities in settings from intimate supper clubs to large concert stages and stadiums. Throughout her illustrious career she has received awards and recognition for her dancing and choreography and was the artistic director of the renowned Angelika Nemeth Dance Ensemble (ANDE). Her artistic legacy has significantly influenced the field of Middle Eastern dance not only in Southern California but worldwide. She is forever grateful to her first belly dance teacher, Feiruz Aram, who inspired her to study this beautiful art form. Angelika has certificates in Dance, Theatre Arts and Related Technologies, and yoga instruction; she holds a Bachlors of Science degree in Education and an Masters Degree in Psychology specializing in the Transformational Arts.
